American politician, environmentalist, and author. Gore was born in Washington, D.C. Like his father, Gore represented Tennessee in Congress, serving in both the House of Representatives (1977– 1985) and the Senate (1985–1993). As vice president throughout the two-term Clinton administration (1993–2000), he was an important advocate for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), deficit reduction, and improvements in government efficiency. Gore was the Democratic nominee for president in 2000, and won the popular vote while losing the electoral vote in one of the closest and most controversial elections in U.S. history. Currently he manages his business interests and lectures widely; his talk on the topic of global warming was made into the 2006 Academy Award–winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. Gore is the author of three best-selling books: Earth in the Balance (1992), An Inconvenient Truth (2006), and The Assault on Reason (2007). In 2007 Gore and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the Nobel Peace Prize. See also algore.com.
