American research psychologist and educator. Wechsler was born in Warsaw, Poland, and immigrated with his family to the United States during World War II. He received an A.B. from Washington and Jefferson College and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in social psychology from Harvard University. Wechsler has written numerous articles and contributed to books on medical and psychological topics. He is currently a lecturer of social psychology at the Harvard School of Public Health, where since 1992 he has been principal investigator for the nationwide College Alcohol Study. His research group has conducted a number of controversial studies about the effects of alcohol policies and high risk behaviors such as binge drinking, a term that Wechsler has been credited with popularizing.
